Gohan embraces the spirit and tradition of Japanese cooking with a mid-western twist. Based out of Minneapolis, we reflect the rhythms of the Minnesota seasons by using ingredients we can gather locally. We respect all forms of life and are mindful about the transfer of life force along each process of food-sharing – from the ingredients used, to preparation, to consumption. We support, celebrate, and nurture an authentic presence to food. Gohan is bringing back traditional sushi-making practices by making Japanese food through Minnesotan eyes and creating a connection with people to the food they eat.

KOU Bringing over ten years experi- ence to the table, Kou has worked as a sushi chef / head chef at many various restaurants around the Twin Cities. He’s catered events large and small, and truly loves all aspects of sushi-making. His sushi style is intentional, minimalistic, and thoughtful in nature. When he’s not making sushi, chances are you can find him biking around the city, immersed in a cookbook, or spending time with his baby boy, Ace.

CHRISTI After graduating from college with international management and Japanese degrees, Christi moved to Japan to continue her studying and work. After working corporate jobs in merchandising and product design and development for a couple of years, her heart led her to the service industry. For her, creating Gohan became the culmination of her interests, and a pretty rad way to spend her time. When she’s not helping you organize your party, she’s almost definitely listening to Stevie Nicks, reading about the cosmos, or trying to figure out motherhood with her little dude, Ace.
